As people grow older, they may suffer through many losses — a spouse, family members, friends, health, mobility, status, and sometimes respect from others and ultimately respect for themselves, This sense of loss can be overwhelming as the struggle of maintaining control over their lives may seem to be a losing battle. Marital relationships may struggle; they are plagued with feelings of guilt, sadness or remorse.
As a result, many older adults often begin to experience a loss of appetite, (difficulty making decisions, an inability to sleep, explosive anger, and/or a desire to withdraw from those who care in order to be alone in their pain. Eventually, life itself may seem too great a burden to continue. Simple everyday activities may be impossible in the face of a strong sense of hopelessness. Growing old does not mean accepting emotional despair as a condition of life. The good news is this downward spiral is not a necessary part of life, but a treatable condition that can be reversed. The quality of life can be renewed as the feelings of despair and hopelessness are changed to hope, joy and inner peace. Problems such as extreme anxiety, depression, lack of motivation and sadness due to grief and loss issues can be minimized or resolved by effective treatment. Senior Perspectives can help.
What happens when I call for help?
Treatment begins with scheduling a complimentary confidential assessment by a qualified professional that can be conducted at Senior Perspectives or in the privacy of your own home. The assessment will determine the level of care appropriate to each individual and make a referral for treatment based on symptoms, level of severity, and availability of resources. Those who could benefit from Senior Perspectives will be referred to the programs physician for further evaluation and admission to the program.
What will be my daily activities at Senior Perspectives?
Programming is available on weekdays between the hours of 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. During that time, the treatment program will focus on each unique individual, with a specific set of circumstances, symptoms and goals to be understood and treated.
Senior Perspectives provides:
- structured group counseling with other senior adults struggling with similar issues
- meetings with family members as needed
- meetings with assigned case managers as needed
- individual counseling as needed
A physician supervises the care of each person in the program and can meet one-on-one on a regular basis with each individual and involved family members to ensure quality care. Often, special medications are
prescribed for creating the specific symptoms of a participant in the program. Each participant also receives a nutritious meal each day.
How long will treatment last?
Every client’s treatment is individualized-all participants attend the Program daily or as often as the individualized plan of care specifies. As progress is being made in meeting their treatment goals, patients may reduce their number of visits throughout a two- to three-month period.
Will my insurance pay for treatment?
The cost of Senior Perspectives and all treatment services are covered by Medicare and most commercial insurance health plans. Normal deductibles and co-pays apply.
What if I don’t have daily transportation to Senior Perspectives?
For those who do not have transportation to the program, transportation assistance can be coordinated by Senior Perspectives. Specially-equipped vans are available for those who need wheelchair access or other special care.
